Melvyn William Woodard, October 1, 1949 – May 8, 2021, passed peacefully at home in Columbus, Ohio. Melvyn was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Freda (Goldberg) Woodard; brother, Vern; son, Joseph; children he was a father figure to, Roger & John Griffith. He is survived by his loving companion and kindred soul of over 30 years, Sharon Griffith; by four children, Joshua, Heather Henry, Michael-Ann Cox; and a loving father figure to Richard Griffith. He has four surviving siblings, Marsha Brazzleton, Stewart Woodard, Dallas Woodard, and Carol Woodard; and nieces and nephews, Fredreana Adkins, Antionette Overstreet, Dawn Woodard, Heather Hartman, Dariek Woodard, Nikki Graham, James Woodard, and Fred Woodard. Melvyn’s memory will be carried on not through his belongings, but the stories shared by his family and friends that knew and loved him. Mel was rich in life and love. He was a voice of reason, a heart full of love and forgiveness, and most importantly a man of integrity and compassion. No one who met Mel ever walked away a stranger. He loved cooking, telling stories, giving advice, and most of all loved his family and friends. He would want you to think of him the next time you cast your fishing line in the local pond, stumbled upon an arrowhead in a field, or the next time thunderstorm clouds roll in as he will be chasing them on the other side. His life and love will be missed by those who looked up to him and those that called him Brother, Uncle, Dad, and friend. Arrangements arranged by Buckeye Cremation by Schoedinger and kept private per Melvyn’s request.
