Donaldson, Charles Robert ‘Bob’, Jr., 88, of Upper Arlington, Ohio died Wednesday, April 9, 2021 of Alzheimer’s Disease at Kobacker House hospice. The son of Elizabeth V. (McClelland) and Charles R Donaldson, he was born at home on May 2, 1932, in Wellsville, Ohio. An alumnus of the University of Mt. Union, Ohio State University, OU, YSU, and Geneva College, he taught at Jones Jr. High and Upper Arlington High School, where he also coached football. Preceded in death by his first wife, JoAnn Waggle, he is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Morgan, and children Janet (Charles) Manczak; Charles R., III (Rosemary); Jill (Steven) Dorn; Scot (Kellye) Donaldson; Chip (Heather) Cecil; and David (Christina) Ireland. Also surviving are grandchildren Regan (Rob) Jones; Ryan (Brianne) Manczak; Stacey and Shannon Dorn; Madeline, Emma, Aden, and Ryle Donaldson; plus Gwendolyn, Meredith, Emily, and George Cecil; and 6 great-grandchildren. A Mason, Bob served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, was president of the Welsh Society of Central Ohio, enthusiastically celebrated his Scottish heritage, was an accomplished world traveler, and an omnivorous reader. A very handsome, gentle man with beautiful blue eyes, he drew everyone to him, and he never uttered an unkind word.
Due to Covid, there will be no service nor calling hours. This summer, there will be an internment with full military honors at Springhill Cemetery in his hometown, Wellsville, Ohio.
