Malinda G. Yoder, age 80, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on November 12, 2020. She was born on May 8, 1940 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late John H. and Jane (Millar) Harris.
Malinda grew up in Hudson, Ohio, graduating from the Laurel School in Cleveland and Radcliffe College in Cambridge, MA. She worked in publishing at Little Brown and Houghton Mifflin in Boston, Random House in New York and other firms.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 27 years, Max. They enjoyed life in Minneapolis, San Diego, Cleveland and Central Ohio. Malinda and Max were free spirits, foregoing their careers in publishing and linguistics to focus on Max’s art career, which Malinda managed. They traveled the US and internationally in pursuit of inspiration for paintings.
Following Max’s death in 2008, Malinda worked in retail and volunteered at OhioHealth Hospice, calling on patients. She was actively involved at Dwell Community Church (Talarzyk-Graham Home Church and the Never Alone Ministry).
In her early days, Malinda was an accomplished scholar, artist and pianist. Throughout her life, she was known and loved by many for her quick mind, independence, persistence, voracious reading appetite, fun conversations, thoughtfulness, love of community and strong and enduring faith.
Malinda is survived by her stepdaughter Laura (Jon) Williamschen of Excelsior MN and their sons David, Nathan and Michael. She is also survived by her brother Nick (Jane) Harris of Chatham MA and their children, Elizabeth, John and Edward and their families.
Malinda’s family and friends wish to thank the many wonderful people at Friendship Village of Columbus and Capital City Hospice who so generously cared for her during her last two years.
Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Malinda at either OhioHealth Hospice or Dwell Community Church, both in Columbus.
A service to celebrate Malinda’s life will be held at a later date.
