Robert Charles Abbruzzese, loving father of three sons, passed thru the gates of heaven on March 11th, 2020, at the age of 57.
Bob was born on November 4, 1962, in Columbus, Ohio, to Ralph and Juanita Barbara Abbruzzese. A graduate of Columbus Northland High School in 1981, he attended Tiffin University on a Baseball scholarship, and was the proud father of sons Austin, Hunter, and Tanner Abbruzzese.
Bob grew up loving sports, following his father and brothers around from game to game, practice to practice. He was a natural at any of the sports he participated, from the fields and gyms at Forest Park, St. Anthony, Woodward Park, and Northland High School. It was at Northland that Bob was a two-sport athlete, excelling at baseball, where he was All-League and All-District player. His fondest memory was hitting a home run in his final game at Northland High School. He was also a member of the Number One in the state rated basketball teams of Art Signore, in 1980 and 1981. Those teams will always be remembered for their brotherhood and team chemistry, which led them greatness.
A knee injury cut short his career in college, but Bob did continue his love for sports playing basketball and softball for many years, continuing friendships, and beginning many more. He had a passion for the Dallas Cowboys and anything to do with Ohio State Buckeyes, and was an avid collector of sports memorabilia. Most of all though, Bob loved doing anything and everything with his sons, as they were the most important part of his life. He will always be remembered by his family and friends as the person who would always be there to help with anything from moving furniture to painting walls to fixing the plumbing; and for his ability to make everyone around him happy due to his natural ability to make people laugh and smile. Bob worked with his brothers at Abbruzzese Brothers Inc……..
Bob is survived by his parents Ralph and Juanita Barbara, three sons Austin, fiancé Danielle, Hunter, and Tanner; grandchildren Brindlee, Jaxi, Sterling, and Anne-Michelle. Brothers Ralph(Candy), Jim (Dede) John, and Joe(Mary), Aunts and Uncles Bill and Esther McGee, Carol DiPollito, John F. Abbruzzese, and Tom and Marcy Abbruzzese; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank all the many staff at Villa Angela on Karl Road and The Laurels of Walden Park, for all the years of care they provided for Bob especially his nurse practioner Heidi Christenson; and special thanks to so many very devoted friends and family who sent cards and visited Bob over the past 20 plus years, especially Nancy Barnett, LuAnn Dove, Karen Larkin, Tino Richards, Robert Tatum, Jim Hartigan, and Pat Tiberi.
At this time due to the Covid-19 virus statewide shutdown, there will be a private burial service at Resurrection Cemetery in Lewis Center, Ohio. There will be a “Celebration of Life” remembrance for Bob at a date to be announced, later this summer.
