Dr. Elizabeth (Betsy) Williams Roberson – July 9, 1931 – September 21, 2018
Betsy Roberson passed away peacefully on September 21, 2018. She is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert Taylor Williams II (Irene), and her two brothers, Herbert Taylor Williams III (Betty) and William Williams. She is survived by her 3 children, son, David Roberson (Mary), son, Paul Roberson, daughter, Catherine Daum (Dennis), 7 grandchildren: Jeremy Gore, Lauren Roberson, Christopher Coffin (Amy), Michael Roberson, Paula Swartz (Bryn), Caitlin Coffin, Philip Roberson, and her great-grandson, Alfred Coffin.
Betsy graduated from Richmond College, VA with her B. A. in Physical Education. She attended the Southern Illinois University where she earned a master’s degree in School Psychology. In 1988, at the age of 57, Betsy earned her PhD in Early Childhood Education, something she was extremely proud of. As a Behavior Disorder/Learning Disability school counselor, her nickname became Dr. Boo to the children that she passionately advocated for.
Upon retirement, Betsy loved gardening, playing bridge, and being a docent for the Frank Lloyd Wright Dana House in Springfield, Illinois. She moved to Ohio in 2014 to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. She maintained her love for children; volunteering at the pre-schools of her local churches in both Springfield, IL and Columbus, OH. Her great-grandson, Alfred was the joy of her life.
